Music Monday: Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Today's Music Monday is brought to you by our friends at Sam Hill Entertainment. We love working with them and pairing their bands with our couples.

The Georgian Terrace in December 2011.

From Sam Hill Entertainment's vantage point as the link between the couple and their wedding band, we put our eyes on a lot of special song requests. From the traditional to modern, tried-and-true to out of left field, we've seen them all -- and our bands have learned and performed them.

A newly married couple's first dance is a beautiful moment, one that everyone in attendance will remember. It can reflect a special meaning to the couple, or just be a classic love song. Here are some suggestions for first dance songs that are cool, aren't cheesy…and are easy to dance to.

Something old: Van Morrison's "Moondance" never disappoints. It's simple, beautiful & timeless.

Something new: Jack Johnson's "Better Together" is a laid back favorite.

Something borrowed: The President's impromptu rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" has given this classic new life.

Something blue: Brad Paisley's cover of Ryan Adams' "When the Stars Go Blue" has always been a big hit as a first dance number for the Jangling Reinharts

Music Monday: First Dance

We love hearing from you for suggestions for Music Monday! Last week, one of our favorite DJ's, Tom Russo with SE Events (Spectrum), suggested this for First Dance Music Monday.

Sweet lyrics. Fun. Not too slow. The perfect recipe for your first dance as a married couple!

Music Monday: First Dance Song

Happy Music Monday, good people! I woke up feeling quite nostalgic this morning and thought there would be no better First Dance song suggestion than this by the ultimate swooner.

One of our couples this coming weekend is using this song to speak to each other during their First Dance. How sweet.

Enjoy!

Music Monday: Bridal Processional

I love when our couples give us their song list and there are songs I would *Never* have thought of as processional songs, or otherwise attached to weddings. But on this, I stand corrected. The lyrics couldn't be better for a processional.

Take a listen.

Music Monday: First Dance

Here's a First Dance song from an artist I had previously not known, Christy Angeletti. Love the lyrics.

Music Monday, I Can't Wait for All Your Life!

It is Music Monday again y'all, and today we bring you a few beautiful wedding day ditties. First on the menu for today, we present

All Your Life by The Band Perry,
This beautiful song expresses a lady's love of her man, and how that is all she needs to be happy. She "just wants to be the only girl you love all your life...". This song will add a little southern flair to your day as well, which is always a plus!

Next, on a contrasting note, take a listen to

I Can't Wait by Runner Runner,

This beau belts out how he can't wait for his belle to be his wife. It is a beautiful song, and I think it would be seemingly simple to get your band's front man to swap out some custom lyrics about you and your groom. Either way you decide to go, these two songs about commitment and excitement will make your day even more special.

Find both of these great songs on iTunes. All your Life is on the self titled album The Band Perry and I Can't Wait is on the self titled album Runner Runner.

Music Monday: First Dance for a Winter Wedding

We love winter weddings!  And, apparently, so do the Avett Brothers.  If you're getting married in January, check out this song:

It's called "January Wedding," so...the connection is pretty much self-explanatory.  It would be sweet and fun for a first dance song or just to add to your reception playlist.  And hey, if you're getting married in one of the other eleven months of the year, feel free to use it anyway!

Every walk down the aisle deserves a very special song!

Today from A Big To Do, we would like to get your wheels turning about music on...
MUSIC MONDAY!

Every wedding (and event for that matter) needs to set a tone. If you are one of those epic couples that has a heck of a love story, think about this emotional ballad by Lindsay McCaul.

I found this (I am bride enough to admit it) while watching Say Yes To The Dress Atlanta (shout out to the ATL). I get chills every time I hear this song and that is exactly what we all want to feel while walking towards our spouse to be, so they can take our hand!

Enjoy Y'all!

**Please support this artist by finding her one iTunes and investing in some of her beautiful lyricism**

Music Monday: Reception Music

A couple of weekend's ago, I got a hankering to repaint my office.
While I was repainting, I was listening to an ipad app called "Aweditorium." If you haven't downloaded it, go do it now. It's all of the "new and not-on-the-radio, therefore not-at-anyone-else's-wedding" music. A lot of it is from artists overseas that don't get much mention in the States.

Via Aweditorium I heard this fantastic diddy that would be a fantastic addition to any reception playlist.

Music Monday: Father/Daughter Dance

Our bride last weekend surprised her dad with this song as their Father/Daughter Dance song.
How sweet is this?!?

Music Monday: Bridal Processional Song

Today's Music Monday is brought to you by the book I am currently re-reading: Twilight: Breaking Dawn. If you follow that series at all, you know that the final movie is set for release November 18. Well, it can't come fast enough for me, let me tell you.

Here's a wedding processional song for all of you who have scored your own "Edward".

Music Monday: First Dance

Ok, so you and your partner are not the super sappy, waltz-dancing-inspired couple. You want something a little more fun, quirky if you will, to dance to for your first dance. A song that resembles your upbeat, happy personalities. Well here you go.

Our bride last weekend used this as her and her husband's first dance.
Have your guests walk away saying,
"That was so them!"

What fun songs are ya'll using for your day? I would love to hear about them!

Music Monday: Father/Daughter Dance

I love this song for the infamous Father/Daughter dance.
It isn't super sappy, just a great way to say "I love you."

Have I Told You Lately by Van Morrison

Music Monday: Mother/Son Dance

Once again we are using a song from the fantastic musical, Sound of Music.

After our recent First Dance song, "Something Good", we had one of our wonderful
brides tell us her fiance will be dancing with his mother to another song from the musical.

"Edelweiss" by the Captain

I love this song. It is such a fantastic song for the Mother/Son dance! Its lyrics talk
about someone always being happy to see you and watch you grow up.
What better song could there be for this dance?

What songs are y'all using for the mother/son dance at your wedding?
I would love to hear them! Follow me on Twitter or

Music Monday: Bouquet Toss Song

Bouquet Toss Song

We have all heard different songs for the bouquet toss part of the reception, but these days it seems there is only one song that is played, "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. If you ask me, it is a good idea to switch this song up, so I have made it my job this week to find some other suggestions for the bouquet toss song.

"This One's For The Girls" by Martina McBride

Although a throw-back, an oldie but goodie! "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper.

Hope these songs spark a little inspiration! What songs are you using?

Music Monday: First Dance

In honor of last night's Sound Of Music viewing at the Prewett household, here's our Music Monday suggestion for the perfect First Dance.

This song is the beginning of a love story for the Captain and Maria in the classic
The Sound of Music.
It is a conversation between the two, telling each other they must have
done something good in their lives to deserve the love they have for each other.
It is a great reminder of the gratefulness everyone should have for life and the love of your partner.
If you love musicals this is a great song for your first dance song!

Something Good by Maria and Captain

Music Monday: First Dance

One of the most common questions we get as planners is, surprisingly, about music. "What is a good Father/Daughter Dance song if we're not super close?" "What's a good processional song that people haven't heard a million times?" These questions have sparked a new weekly blog:

Music Mondays

If you've got ideas or suggestions for great songs to use in weddings and events, email it to us (BlogSuggestions@ABigToDoEvent.com) or tweet it to us (www.twitter.com/ChecklistQueen). Can't wait to hear how you're making your celebrations unique.

We wanted to start the Music Mondays off with a great, and very fitting, first dance song. This song is a picture of what the first dance should symbolize to a newly married couple, and a great reminder to other married couples, what it means to really be partners in life.

The song talks about how once the honeymoon is over it is often hard to forget the love you have as a couple and the reasons you had for getting married. It is a great reminder that love is the greatest gift of all, and the best reason for getting married.

Hopefully this song will spark a little inspiration as you plan your wedding and remind you of the reason you are getting married. We hope you love this First Dance song as much as we do!

If you have any ideas or songs you would like to share, feel free to Email me or find me on Twitter to share your ideas!
